How to care for Hetian jade

• Wear it. Nephrite becomes smoother and more lustrous with skin contact; no oil or wax is needed.
• Avoid knocks. Nephrite is very tough but can still chip or crack if dropped on a hard floor. Take bangles off for sports and heavy work.
• Avoid chemicals. Remove jade before swimming, cleaning with detergents, or applying perfume and hair spray.
• Cleaning. Rinse in lukewarm water with a little mild soap, brush gently with a soft brush, dry with a soft cloth. Change the cord of pendants and bracelets about once a year.
• Storage. Keep each piece separately in a soft pouch or box so harder gems and metal do not scratch it.

No. Oiling only adds a temporary shine and can trap dirt; natural handling gives a lasting lustre.

Can I shower with a jade bangle?

It will not harm the jade, but soap residue dulls it and wet floors make knocks more likely, so it is better to take it off.
